Enjoying Beach Time in Colorado This Summer

Colorado isn’t exactly known for its waterfront property. Our colorful state tends to lend more towards majestic peaks and rolling plains. However, being completely landlocked does not mean that we don’t have something to offer water lovers. While we can’t magically produce an ocean here, we have plenty of lakes and reservoirs to soothe those who enjoy basking in the sun on the beach.

Here are some great options for enjoying beach time in Colorado:

Denver Reservoirs

If you live in the Denver Metro area, the closest beaches can be found at our man-made reservoirs.

  • Cherry Creek State Park Reservoir
  • Chatfield State Park Reservoir
  • Aurora Reservoir

Mountain Time

If you really want to make a day (or weekend) out of your beach time, consider a weekend trip to the Rocky Mountains where there are plenty of lakes and reservoirs to choose from.

  • Grand Lake
  • Lake Dillon (Dillon Reservoir)
  • Steamboat Lake State Park

Beyond the City & Mountains

It may be hard to believe, but there’s a lot to explore in Colorado. If you want to get out of the big city and you’ve been there, done that with the mountain towns – there are still places to check out that meet your beach time criteria.

  • Boulder Reservoir
  • Medano Creek
  • Jackson Lake

This is by no names an all-inclusive list, so feel free to research and explore other uncharted beaches in colorful Colorado. I’d love to hear your favorites some time!
