Top Tips for Packing Away the Holiday Decor
We love decorating for the holidays, and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have a lot of decorations. If you even have an inkling of a holiday spirit, then you probably feel the same way about decking out your space for major and minor holidays.
All good things must come to an end, however, and soon you’ll need to take everything down and put it away for another year.
Here’s our best advice on how to pack your holiday decorations away safely and keep your decorations organized to make it easier to decorate the next time a holiday rolls around.
Storage
Here are some simple strategies that can help you get the most out of your storage spaces and make sure your Christmas decorations are protected.
Start by wrapping each ornament in newspaper or packing paper. Then insert some cardboard or bubble wrap between ornaments of varying sizes. Store your most fragile items in an empty plastic apple container or egg carton, preferably at the bottom of the box.
For easier storage, pack small but durable decorations in plastic containers or tupperware. Keep ornaments safe this holiday season by putting some extra space between them, and storing frequently-used items in containers.
Lights
Each holiday season, we carefully remove all of our Christmas tree lights and carefully place them in storage boxes. It’s so easy to tangle the strands if you’re not careful. Don’t spend hours undoing your hard work in the Christmas decorating department with this quick fix tip on how to pack them away without tangles. To avoid a tangled mess this year, consider using zip ties, plastic bags, or using pieces of cardboard to wrap the lights around.
The Tree
Not trying to fit your tree back in the box it came in? Wrap the tree in plastic wrap instead of taking it apart. You can even leave the lights on for next time! Before you start wrapping, make sure your artificial Christmas tree is nice and clean. Next year, cut open the plastic wrap and you’ll have a tree with no assembly required. If you can find a big enough tree bag, then can add an extra layer of protection by putting the wrapped tree in the bag, making it easier to carry to storage. This makes for easy holiday tree set-up and take down for years to come.
If you want to keep your fresh Christmas tree, the best way to store it is in a similar environment to where you had it during the holiday season. Keep it in a cool basement or attic, away from any heat sources.
Decorating for the holidays is an enjoyable way to bring originality and tradition into your home throughout the year, so keep these top tips in mind to help keep holiday storage fuss-free and start prepping for next year at the same time!
